Originally from San Francisco, Gail moved to Sydney with her husband and two children in l988. She was a potter and an art teacher until she moved to Perth a few years later. This move allowed her to return to her favourite passion, which was painting. For many years, she worked out of PS Artist Studios in Fremantle, but she now shares a small heritage cottage in Churchlands with 3 other artists. (Settler’s Cottage).
Gail holds a BA in Fine Art and has won several awards for her work, including being the overall winner of the Stirling Art Awards. She is a member of the Joondalup Wanneroo Art Society and Joondalup Art Gallery.
Statement:
I approach each painting with excitement and I work very quickly. Emotion, rather than logic, often triggers my direction, and that direction sometimes changes midway. My studio is never very tidy, but I have come to accept that.
I mostly work in watercolours or oils, although I sometimes venture into mixed media or acrylics. My watercolours are often impressionistic cityscapes and I always incorporate drawing into these works. I love the ocean and my oil paintings often reflect this, with boats and water being favourite themes. My work is becoming more abstract the older that I get.
